before troubleing shooting jfw in win 98 i think it prudent to make sure win
98 is set to work right with jfw.
denise you have to choices here.
choice one is call hj and get the new tapes for 25 dollars that go with version
3.3.
those tapes do a great job of set up.
be sure to also read trouble shooting tape because it provides extra set up
info.
now if you do not want to pay 25 dollars you have a second option.
get my set up instructions.
they are in e mail format, eudora to be exact.
but the file does include instructions for changeing them to outlook.
here are how you get my instructions.
one other thing, once you get them, go into your e mail program and read the
mail box 98 set up.
my set up instructions are a little better than theirs.

p s if you need help, and you may because their is a catch 22, being that
setting up win explorer for best results helps if it is done prior to moveing
my file from a to z
just right
or use your other screen reader.
if you use eudora, and want to use the friendlyapps.zip file, even prior to
downloading it set up eudora first.
here is what you need to do.
launch eudora
first we shall make a mail box called friendlyapps.
insteadd of making it a mail box like we did in the makeing a mail box we
shall make it a folder.
do the following
alt keystroke
arrow to the right to mail box
down arrow to new
hit enter
now it ask for a name.
call it friendlyapps
tab to the next box, and it says make it a folder,
check box not checked.
so hit the space bar once to make it checked.
now tab to
o k
hit enter
now your prompted to name a mail box.
if you tab you will see that the layout is the same as the one above.
this menu listed below is a repeat of the one we just had.
tabbing gives the following choices.
edit box
make it a folder
o k
cancel
the above are your choices.
tab over to cancel and hit enter.
now close eudora
now here is where non eudora beginners can dive in.
launch your browser
i assume you went to nicks jfw users list site
with your favorite browser
not the h j site

do a left mouse click on this address after routeing jfw cursor to the
address above and your browser will go to it automaticly.
tabbed down to faq and hit enter
tabbed to bill cameron and hit enter
tab to friendlyapps.zip
then download the file
friendlyapps.zip
to do this with browser tab to file and hit enter to start the process of
downloading
then follow prompts.
hitting enter a second time usually does it, but each browser is a little
differant.
if your browser is internet explorer look on desk top to find the downloaded
file.
by default i e puts downloads their.
once you download file i also assume you went into windows explorer and copied
the friendlyapps.zip file into clip board.
to open win explorer
hit win 9 x start key
hit letter p for programs
hit p c cursor
arrow up to win explorer and hit enter
now move to where you have the file, it will vary from system to system
control plus letter c keystroke
is copy to clip board command
friendlyapps.zip contains added info for conversion to another e mail format,
plus tutorials on many utilities.
of course it is all in eudora format.
so this message is to let you know what to do with it.
well this file is a file that instructs the user on
how to use friendlyapps.zip file.
first a quick summery
these files when unzipped contain eudora mail files that are *.toc and *.mbx
plus their are 3 text files in their.
in addition a sub folder called dun, short for dial up networking.
if you do not use eudora read this bracketted information.
[ if you do not use eudora, but instead use outlook copy friendlyapps.zip into
any folder, then when you follow the instructions for converting eudora to
outlook you just give the path of the folder where you unzipped
friendlyapps.zip.
so if you put files in to a folder called zip and zip is in the top row or at
the root your path will be
c:\zip\faq\
of course if you do not have a faq folder it is even easier to just unzip at
the root and doing so will create a faq folder with files inside of it.
in fact eudora users can also do this if they desire.
so your path will be
c:\faq\
Outlook can convert eudora files for you upon installation. If you don't do
it then you can also go to file/import and export and choose "import internet
mail and addresses.
You can import from Eudora Pro and Lite,
actually see o-e.txt or outlook .txt
o -e being for outlook express and outlook.txt for outlook 98.
these 2 files are currently in friendlyapps.zip file.
also in their is this read me file as well
as the txt documents for conversion to outlook are inside it. ]
but unzipping friendlyapps.zip will reveal that does contain a sub folder
called dun.
in addition to the above outlook text instructions
so to keep the sub folder i also had to keep the path data.
of course this is why unzipping into a current folder like the
zip folder,
means you will also have to go into the faq folder to find files
translation, inside of zip will be a faq folder, you only need to copy what is
inside of faq and not faq itself. ]
now eudora users need to unzip friendlyapps.zip file into a folder they make
in eudora called friendlyapps.
the folder should be maid prior to going into windows explorer to unzip it.
in fact see instructions at beginning of this message.
we shall have to move friendlyapps .zip into friendlyapps folder inside of
eudora
do this with win explorer
copy friendlyapps.zip to clip board after downloading it from nicks site.
these instructions are also above for copying to clip board.
go to the friendlyapps folder after you coppied friendly apps .zip into clip
board
by downarrowing to
friendlyapps
by useing tree view of windows explorer
this folder should be located inside of eudora, of course if you failed to make
a eudora folder called friendlyapps it will not be their.
now be aware that if you arrow down and see eudora, that is o k, but do not be
surprised if you do not see it as you arrow down in explorer.
oh you say you can not find eudora in dos or in
windows 95 or 98.
well window 95 applications are usually
installed in a folder called program files.
so if you use windows explorer open up
program files by arrowing down to it in windows explorer and
hitting right arrow to open it.
once open arrow down to eudora, eudora4, or qualcom.
the program depending on the version and who installed it
will have an effect on which name it will appear under.
so above i give pretty good ideas on what it will be.
if eudora use right arrow to open up eudora and then
down arrow looking for friendlyapps.fol
[ if you come to qualcomm and have no eudora option, hit right arrow key to
open up qualcomm then down arrow to eudora.
open up eudora with right arrow then arrow to friendlyapps.fol ]
once you arrow down to eudora and hit right arrow to open it, continue to
arrow down to friendlyapps folder.
when you get their paste the friendlyapps.zip file into this folder by
control plus letter v keystroke.
now tab over to list view
use your unzip program to unzip it.
in the future i may make file self extractor file so the person does not need a
zip program.
you can tell the differance, because a zip file ends in . zip and a self
extractor file ends in . exe
once unzipped you will see the folder called
faq
if you are in the list view of friendlyapps folder.
arrow to faq and hit enter.
now do this
control plus letter a keystroke
control plus letter c keystroke
you just highlighted all, and copied all to clip board.
now tab back to tree view.
arrow up to the friendlyapps folder
close it with left arrow key.
now do the following
control plus letter v keystroke
this paste all the files you need into where they need to be.
now control plus function key f 4 keystroke
this closes win explorer
run eudora
after eudora is running do this.
hit alt plus letter x keystroke
arrow up to friendlyapps folder and hit enter
arrow up and down to see how many mail boxes are in their.
their should be plenty.
of course one can copy and paste it into one of those
folders in dos
also remember the folder programfiles in dos will be shortened to 8 characters
progra~1
because dos has a limit of 8 letters for a directory.
