Hello,
When you download if you tab to the details after the connection is
established you will see (with the JAWS cursor) just a couple of lines down
from the tabs, the status of the session. It will say:
Downloading message ## of ### and ## will increment as messages are
downloaded. Now if you could see what was going on you would see that once
that last message number was downloaded your e-mail client goes back up to
the first message and begins sending a series of delete commands, DELE#
DELE## and so on until it gets to message ###. if you do not allow the
computer to complete these steps then the messages will not be DELEted from
your ISP account.
I don't understand why Microsoft would want to hide the details of these
protocols from us stupid users, they also hide the details of the logon
process which really gets on my ---- because you cannot troubleshoot the
connection. I find for example it seems to take this overpowered and
oversized machine as long to connect and begin downloading messages as it
does my old 40 mHz 386 to log on, update the time from a time server and
download all my messages. I am sure it has something to do with the logon
sequence but without being able to track it I can not manipulate it either.
Sorry, some of this was not necessary. but you might find it interesting to
telnet to your ISP mail server and manipulate messages there manually, if
the ISP Telnet option is enabled. Gives you a real sense of control.
