Tom, I agree that it is not a ISP related problem, but  for me, these guys at tech support at least with the larger more knowledgeable providers get asked these questions all day long. They may not have the deep down answers from the Microsoft Knowledge Base but they do have work around that can solve these annoying problems. I had this same problem in the early days of Windows 95 and they had the dummy network answer for me long before all the bug fixes. One of the best providers is Earthlink. Many times I have installed their dial up on a system just to have their cd check that all the necessary current Windows files were there even though I did not intend to use them on that particular machine. These are just some light thoughts so you can take it for what it's worth. And if you solve this problem, please share your notes.

Oh yeah, I know the Network applet and its Identification tab very well; I've probably been into it and changed the computer name, workgroup and so on fifty times or more. Well, maybe not that many times, but you get the idea. Still no luck. Each time I reboot after that, I'm not given the opportunity to log on to Windows with a password. I just go sailing right in and when I log onto the Net that "save password" checkbox is still grayed out. It's not a big deal, but it is puzzling and slightly frustrating at times.

This isn't an ISP-related problem, I'm sure of that. I've set up a number of dialup connections to different Net providers on this machine and had the problem with each one of them.

Cheers!

Tom
