To insert page numbers in MS Word, alt-I for insert. Go to insert page
number and press enter. First item is whether you want your page number to
be in a header or footer. If JFW says, "footer", and you want page number
to be at the top, press up arrow. JFW will say, "header." Tab to next
control which is position of page number. Just press the first letter of
the alignment you want-- l, left; c, center; r, right. Tab to the next
control. JFW says, "Show page number on first page checked." Press space
bar to uncheck.
The next two controls are o.k. and cancel. The last control is the format
dialog box. Here, you can arrow down and choose in what format you want
numbers to appear--roman numerals, letters, numbers, etc.

Hope this works for you.
