With respect to JFW running when you exit Ruby, you have the choice whether
you want that to happen or not. If your computer has enough power to
handle scanning and other applications you might want to do this. That way
you can scan in a large batch of pages and let the computer process while
you work on other tasks. If you are using a hardware synthesizer,
multitasking with Ruby with 32 meg of ram, the minimum for Ruby, works
well. If you are using only software speech I wouldn't try multitasking
with anything less than 64 meg of RAM and a Pentium 200 or faster.
Otherwise I'd unload JFW before you start Ruby and launch it when you are
done.
If you have done something about any documents you have in Openbook 3.5
form, then it is safe to delete that version of the program. If the Ruby
install found any documents, it should have prompted you to convert them or
given you the choice to convert later. The program will continue to give
you this choice, if you don't convert, until you either finally do the
conversion or use the "I've Changed My Mind" option. In this case it will
never again ask you and converting to the Ruby format is a challenging
task. If you don't have any documents that you've kept in 3.5 or if you've
already converted, don't worry about any of this.
Openbook 3.5 doesn't have an uninstallation program. Simply delete
everything starting with the openbook main directory, usually c:\openbook.
