Just curious; is your processor a Pentium 2 or Celleron? I am thinking of
upgradeing from the ThinkPad 385xd to a 390E which comes with a 366Mhz
Celleron processor. JFW/Eloquence performs nicely on my existing 385XD.
Let me point out, however, that at one point I was quite dissappointed with
the performance of the JFW/Eloquence combination. Specifically, I was
getting significant delays between keystrokes and speech feedback.
Initially, I thought the lag was due to some sort of compatibility issues
between JFW and the NeoMajic video card. It turned out not to be a video
card related problem after all. I discovered that when my computer was on
battery power the power management settings set my processor speed to
minimum speed. When on AC power the processor speed was set to medium.
Changing the processor speed settings to Maximum for both AC and DC power
made the world of difference in responsiveness with Eloquence. Of course,
at the expense of shorter battery life when on DC power.
To check your power settings; (Win 95)
1. Go to control panel
2. Choose Power
3. Control Tab to the Power mode tab page.
4. Adjust settings accordingly.

Hi List,
I'm sure this topic has been covered to death but...
I am now using Eloquence with JFW3.3.26 on a Thinkpad 600 laptop.
Previously, I have used card based synths on my desktops. I realize that
software synths are slower but there is an intolerable speech lag when
using the laptop. Eloquence seems to run fine on my old desktop machine,
which has less processor speed and ram.
In a past correspondence with a reader of this list, I was told that the
processor is most indicative of good performance. Since I am using a 300
MHz pII with 64 MG of Ram, there should not be a speed problem. Especially
since Eloquence worked fine with a slower machine with less ram. I wonder
if there is a problem with a hardware setting on the laptop effecting
performance or if there is simply an Eloquence setting to adjust.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
