two questions about missing shortcuts

Hi list people. I have two questions acutally they are the same for both. I
deleted two chat programs completely or so I thought. Now when I start
windos I get a "windos is searching for the shortcut" How can I delete them?
Another question is how do I delete a program from a listview. When I click
on a file and am asked what program I want there is at least one I don't
need in that list. Can anyone make sense of this?
