I read your message on the Jaws listserv while catching up on my mail after
vacation. I have a suggestion for you, though I don't know if it would
benefit sighted people. Pardon the pun, but Windows NT users who are blind
must "fly blind" when rebooting their computers. We have to listen for the
disk drive to stop whirring and guess when to press ctrl+alt+delete to log
in. A beep or some other notification mechanism would be appreciated. I
also have this same problem on the family Win 98 computer, where I have to
guess when to log into my Jaws specific settings.
Maybe the hook for sighted people would be that they can get their coffee
instead of watching the screen constantly and just listen for the beep to
log in.
