Hi to the List and HJ Staff, Last evening I went to the following site. http://www.espn.com. I then chose the ABC Sports link. I waited around 30 seconds for the page to load. No speech could be generated regardless of which keys were pressed such as tab, virtual cursor, jaws cursor, etc. I assumed my machine had frozen, so I wound up rebooting. This morning, I went back to the site and waited a little longer. This time, the page was loaded. My Speak-out synthesizer is the synthesizer being used. JFW's rate slowed down; activating the Jaws cursor restored the rate. However, none of the links were spoken. I am guessing that there are numerous images being loaded. I have those images turned on, as I use a cable modem, and other sighted family members use this machine. Typically, even with images enabled, pages are loaded in under 10 seconds, but that is not the case here. I would suggest that a feature be added so that if one presses the tab key, and a page is being loaded, JFW would state something like "loading page." In this way, the user would know that the page load is in process. When the page has loaded, JFW could report "load done." For those of us totally dependent on speech, this would help immensely with graphic-intensive sites. I'm guessing that if somebody is using a 56K modem, be forewarned that the ABC Sports page is going to take a long time to load. Patience is definitely encouraged. Thank you.
