I have but limited experience of Powerpoint. Do you use the JAWS cursor
and then read line by line while in Powerpoint? Have you tried converting
the slide into rtf format? (That way, you'll get the text in a sensible
order.)

Subject: Navigating Powerpoint documents
: I have commenced using Powerpoint a few weeks ago but I am experiencing
: significant difficulties. I am using JFW 3.3.022 in a Windows
: 98/Office97environment.
:
: Reading complex Powerpoint presentations remain very difficult and
sometimes
: impracticable. The main obstacles are the following:
:
: 1. When reading a slide, whether using the CTR+INSERT+DOWN ARROW or the
TAB
: key, JFW will often read shapes in a random order. This indeed renders
the
: understanding of certain slides practically impossible since there is no
: logical order in which the various shapes and objects of the slide are
read
: by JFW. I have noted that converting the presentation to html format in
: order to read the slide with IE does not solve this logical ordering
problem
: .
:
: 2. Reading and editing the text of of shapes is often very difficult and
: sometimes impracticable. Typically, I would type ENTER when on the shape
: containing the text to be edited but once I have typed ENTER JFW tends to
: read the text in a random fashion. It seems that JFW adds text which is
not
: appearing in the selected shape or does not read all the text or does not
: recognize columns. This problem makes it very difficult to either
carefully
: read the text of a sshape to extract specific information or to actually
: edit a slide.
:
: 3. JFW cannot read shapes or objects that are grouped. I have to each
time
: proceed through the menues to ungroup them.
:
: I would greatly appreciate having imput and finding out whether others are
: using Powerpoint with more success than me.
:
