A few of us were on the phone tonight long distance and we devised this
test.
Please try writing and reading these items--and thank you.
As in 33 widgets, please write "33 and 4/16" and 3 (as in 3 widgets( "3
3/16". What was discovered was that the numbers were read as 3-digit
numbers followed immediately by the fraction line--as if one had written
"improper fractions. Now this might not be important unless one is reading
tax data etc or some recipe where one wants to add "1 1/2 cups of sugar".
I have taken criticism for mentioning this. But if others discover this--as
we did among the groupp of 3 of us who tried this tonight--then we are
trying to make a simple point. For myself, i would have to make 45
Dictionary corrections for individual fractions. If one did that, would that
correct the problems mentioned above where whole numbersand fractions are
blended into one "improper fraction" with 3 digits right before the
fraction line?
