Dan I use Office97 applications daily. in particular, Word and Excel. The
information you offer the list regarding the sluggishness with JFW in Office
97 is bang-on! If you are merely entering text into a document or
spreadsheet all is well. However, a soon as you want to scroll beyond a
visible screen or select text or cells you will really notice a slow down of
JFW's performance. For instance, open a document in Word97 that is several
pages long. Make sure the JFW KeyRepeat is enabled in the Users Options
dialog of the Config Manager. Then get the PC cursor near the bottom of the
screen, (you can use the JAWS cursor to find the last visible line of the
document on screen then rout PC to JAWS.) Now that you are at the bottom of
the document Window hold down the down Arrow for five seconds or so. The
document should start scrolling. Normally, in earlier versions of JFW when
you realease the Arrow key the document stopps scrolling and JFW reads the
current line. This was great for searching and scrolling in a document.
However, with 3.31 versions the document continues scrolling for several
seconds after the letting go of the Arrow key. In other words it takes JFW
several seconds to announce where the cursor landed. This behavior is
deplorable.
There are other situations where JFW is equally as sluggish. I submitted
bug reports for 3.31.32 3.31RC and 3.31.35 outlining in detail the areas of
sluggishness in Office 97 applications that I was aware of. To JFW's credit
they did resolve some of the problems between 3.31.22 and the first RC
version. However, this basic scrolling issue and some others remain
broken.
