Hi Koji,

The SoundBlaster Live is manufactured by Creative Labs. Creative Labs are
most times considered to be the "cornerstone" of sound production for PCs.
The vast majority of applications that use sound replication will have a
default setting (this is the setting you use if your particular sound
card/device isn't listed in the setup), of which is called "SoundBlaster
Compatible". These applications will also list other makers, as well as a
true option for SoundBlaster. It used to be, way back in the age of
dinosaurs, that SoundBlaster used the following addresses in a line of the
Autoexec.bat file: A220, IRQ5, DMA1. The preceding and a SoundBlaster or
"SoundBlaster compliant" card, with its accompanying software were all that
was required to get vocal or sound(*.wav files) and music(*.mid) sounds to
play through your PC speakers. MSDOS provided the MSCDEX.exe file in order
that DOS would recognize *.wav and *.mid as complicated sound files and allow
the sounds to play. Of course we have come a looooong way since then, but
until someone can take over the "throne" so to speak, Creative Labs will be
the father of complicated PC sound. I am not a reseller of Creative Labs,
just someone that has been around since PC dinosaurs. There are other sound
cards out there which are very good, but in the end it's up to you to choose
the one that will work with your PC platform.
