Hello all

Does anyone know a way to turn off the touch pad on a laptop.

I'm trying to work out the best way to disable the touch pad on a Gateway
solo. It belongs to an eleven year old student. She often inadvertently
brushes or taps the touch pad causing JFW to loose focus or focus on another
application, or the desktop.

I don't recall the name of the touch pad software, but I have tried the
following on both the gateway and my Compaq Prosignia, which uses a synaptic
touch pad, with unsatisfactory results.

I have gone in to device manager and disabled the touch pad, in the
properties dialog. This causes an error on boot, windows 98 can't find a
mouse. I have also tried remarking out the lines in system.ini that refer
to the touch pad with the same results.

The sensitivity of these pads can be reduced, and the tap feature wherein a
tap on the pad is equivalent to a left mouse click, can be turned off but
I'd like to be able to completely disable the thing with out creating a
situation where the student has to press enter to clear error messages
before speech starts.

Best regards

Gator
