check your obu.jcf and your ruby.jcf settings to determent if
jaws is put to sleep and the synthesizer is unloaded. do this in
the advanced options. in ruby itself restore the system and
document windows.

Hi,

I have a similar problem, not only gittering but it will read
part of a
line, stop then read it over again and the response to the
navigation keys
really sucks. While I am fairly satisfied with the recognition
I don't much
like how it formats stuff either and I really wish it behaved
more like a
Windows programme however this does not answer your question.

It all seems to have something to do with sharing the synth or
perhaps the
keyboard. If however you unload JAWS things really begin to
move along much
bettter. It doesn't seem to matter if you shut down jaws with
insert+f4
before entering RUBY or alt-tab out of ruby then insert+f4 to
close JAWS,
either way, once JAWS is shut down RUBY's performance
immediately improves.
I doubt it is a memory thing, I have 128 MB on a P2 350 mHz
machine, a
HP-6390C scanner.

If you have a hotkey assigned to bring up JAWS when you close
RUBY it is all
pretty good.

Hope this is helpful, and best of luck and clear thinking on
your exams.
