I use a speech synth only, no Braille display. Irrespective of the graphic 
settings, I can't get JFW to speak the checkmark or even recognise it so I 
can label it. Yet other screen readers just see it and speak it without any 
fuss. The one thing I haven't tried is to adjust the size of graphics that 
JFW recognises. I guess that might be worth a go.
