Again all you helpful folks,
Finally I have a little time to play with sound. So far not much luck, I
thought I would start with the Windows Sound Recorder as a method of getting
the hang of it before sticking out my neck into the public arena of Internet
chat and phone stuff.
So, I go to the properties of the AWE64 sound card, select it as my
preferred device. There is a lot of stuff there, midi, CD, line in,
Microphone and something else I just forget, other I think. Below each is a
left right slider for sterio and updown slider for volume and "mute" check
box, there is also a mute all check box.
I set recording properties mike 100% I record.
What I get is a fuzzy crackeling sound, more or less intelligible but not
nice.
Next problem, Sound Recorder really isn't very nice to JFW. It comes up, I
hear slider control but no indication as to what it controls and what the
reading is. Hit tab and I hear "button" which I discovered hitting spacebar
on begins and ends recording. The JAWS cursor isn't helpful, one line seems
to tell me where the position of recording is in seconds of the length of
the recording also in seconds and that is about that.
In the options under properties there is a number of sound formats, the
default being radio, I tried changing it to CD qulaity mpg layer three,
don't think it mattered though and the selected settings there didn't seem
to stick.
Clearly I am well lost and in need of tutlage. I guess some of this is Jaws
related, the rest my inability to get the hang of the GUI interface. There
may also be a litttle outrage mixed in there as well.
Seems like everyone else knows how to do this stuff so it might be best to
contact me off list if you are able/willing to lend a hand.
