Suspected members of a Maoist group based in the neighbouring Jharkhand have raided Kadabahal village in Orissa’s Sundergarh district, attacking houses and shops of local businessmen. Later, they decamped with cash totalling Rs. 50,000, according to the police.
A four-member gang, suspected to be members of ‘Jharkhand Badsaha group’, looted a shop at Kadabahal village under the Raibaga police limit, 35 km from here, police said. They said the four entered the village on two motor bikes and intimidated shop owner Bijaya Kumar Sahoo and other villagers by hurling crude bombs and firing four rounds in the air. The gang fled after looting cash of Rs. 50,000. The villagers tried to confront the attackers with traditional bows and arrows before police arrived. The militants disappeared into the nearby jungles leaving behind a motorbike and a bag containing bombs, they said. Motorcycle seized Police seized the motorcycle and five live bombs from a nearby field. On investigation, it was revealed that the motorcycle was stolen from the village itself. -PTI
