Friends, As has been intimated by Sri Jyotilal of the Human Rights Alert, Imphal, Manipur, the All Manipur Working Journalist Union conducted a peace rally in Imphal demanding the government to Constitute a judicial inquiry to find out and punish the culprit(s) and ensure a sense of security in the minds of journalist and to take necessary measures for protection of the working journalists of the state. Also, award compensation to the bereaved family as per centre's scheme for victims of terrorist violence. As a result of these measures, the Government has so far declared Rs.3 lakhs as compensation and has promised them to provide a suitable job to one of the victims family. Though I must say, this is only a beginning and this struggle shall go till complete judgement is delivered. Dr Nutan Thakur, IRDS, Lucknow
