Sir/Madam
The attack on Mumbai is not just an attack on the nation's security but has
struck the national economy. Mumbai and Maharashtra that is the considered the
commercial hub of India has been hit and the confidence of the investor has
been shaken. The head offices of the majority of all Indian companies are in
Mumbai followed by New Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore. There is a possibility of
a shift of industries and corporate offices from Mumbai and Maharashtra to the
other neighbouring states especially Gujarat. The effect may not be felt
immediately but in a few years the change will be clearly perceptible. The
business person who invests see the proportion of return on his investment
done. No one would enter into a losing investment. Prior to the terrorist
attack the agitation against North Indians are all factors that would
cumulatively influence this negative shift out of Mumbai as well as
Maharashtra. Future of capital investment in Maharashtra shall
reduce and this is not in the interest of the state whose economic health
shall be badly affected. Let us all analyse the issue.
Regards
Manoj Joshi
