Dear friends,
With International Women’s Day just around the corner, the abuses in songs and
dialogues against women of several Bollywood flicks challenge the sensibility
of all women organizations.
As you all are aware of the increasing eve teasing menace, these types of songs
add more flavour to it which is very humiliating to the women in general. Songs
like Khasmanu Khani……. Marjani…..Marjani, Bhutni Ke etc. are some examples.
On 18.02.2009 a PIL was filed in the Allahabad High Court and a Protest was
staged by us, the members of Mahila Manch/ Sakhi Kendra against the song
Khasmanu Khani Marjani( from Billu Barber). The literal meaning of this song is
“a woman, who is the cause of the death of her husband, should die”. These
types of songs catch the fantasy of children, adolescents and adults et all.
In a country like India, a woman who sacrifices her entire life, prays and
keeps fasts for the long life of her husband can really be the cause of the
death of her husband!!! Could she really eat her husband??? How come these
types of derogatory abuses are made on women??? Where is the so called morale
Brigade gone??? We protested against the Producer, Director, Lyricist, Singers
of Billu Barber and Censor Board who through such abusive songs indirectly ill
treat women.
Memorandum has been sent to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister,
U.P., Mrs Renuka Chaudhary, Minister WCD, Shri Prakash jaiswal,,Minister of
State, Home Affairs, and, National Women’s Commission.
We hope that the Censor Board will be able to understand its role and
responsibility and will not pass these types of songs in movies in future
using derogatory languages against women.
