   It was actually discussed for Apache Kafka 4.0 release, but the concern was 
that too many users building clients apps might still be on Java 11, so the 
bump was deferred. I assume, we will revisit this question for 5.0 release, but 
there is no timeline for 5.0 either, as Kafka follows a semantic versioning 
approach, not a time-base major release schedule. I would expect it earliest 
late 2027, but could also easily only be 2028.
