Review Comment:
   I am used to using Optional only as a return type, not as a field or 
parameter.
   Also, this is consistent with the deprecated TopologyTestDriver 
constructors, so I'd prefer to keep it as it is.
   That said, I'm not opposed to using Optional instead if you prefer.
