hmmm...interesting. Since you can reproduce it with the "real" sleep
and not the forced sleep, this tells me that the controller is probably
remembering that it's screen was dimmed when it went to sleep, and so
thus (incorrectly) dims as soon as it comes out of sleep. With the
forced sleep, it hadn't hit the screen dim timer at the time of sleep,
so it doesn't attempt to dim as it comes out of sleep.

There's definitely a bug here, but nailing down the specifics is a bit
tricky.

One last thing for you to try if you're game-- set
Settings->Screen->Screen Dimming to "Never" and then watch it's
behavior coming out of a "real" sleep.

FYI, you can manipulate the sleep timeout in
Settings->Advanced->Factory Test->Power Management if you want it to go
to sleep a bit quicker than default.
