I believe it broke somewhere around 7.3 -> 7.4 migration. I'll never
run anything older than 7.5 myself, so I don't know any more details
about which build worked.

There may have been plans to keep developing Squeezeplay at some point,
but it was removed from official download when 7.4 shipped. Recent
statements by Logitech employees indicate that it might be downgraded
from beta (meaning an app that is targeted someday for release and
support) to development tool (handy utility, but no official release, no
support and use at your own risk).

I hope this is not the case, but realistically Squeezeplay generates no
revenue and while it might help create a 'sticky' Sqeezebox ecosystem,
it is all but impossible to quantify the business impact of this for the
bean counters.
