I basically followed 'these instructions' (http://www.jfwhome.com/2009/11/22/compiling-squeezeplay-on-linux-ubuntu-amd64/) to compile SqueezePlay on Ubuntu 9.10 on i386/Atom -- but I didn't replace the portaudio code, I just applied a really small, simple patch. The patch I applied is available at http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/squeezeplay/ (jwfhome.diff.txt), as are compiled binaries for i386 Linux. I haven't actually tested the latest builds, but they built without error. r8679 is the same Subversion version as the SB Touch firmware for Squeezebox Server 7.5.0. Note you may need to remove PulseAudio from Ubuntu to get sound working -- there seems to be some problem with SqueezePlay + portaudio (used in SqueezePlay) + Ubuntu's PulseAudio software. I tried a wee bit to resolve that and gave up -- I only ever used SqueezePlay for controlling and debugging/developing, and having working audio with SqueezePlay isn't a big deal for me. Frankly I don't see the appeal of PulseAudio. As recently as Ubuntu 9.10, it only adds features I couldn't care less about (remote sound servers -- who cares), and causes problems with apps I care about (SqueezePlay, Skype). It has nicer config GUIs that are actually less useful than the old alsa config -- for instance, you can only tweak PulseAudio settings for an app if that app is running & using the sound device. But it's not the first or last bad idea that Ubuntu had -- have you seen 'how they moved the window close/minimize/maximize buttons for 10.04' (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/23899/)?
