thanks for the reply. I was also using the instructions from JfwHome!
The first problem I ran into was a missing libasound2-dev library which
was causing the build to fail. After I installed that I got the error
message in my first post. Is that to do with the pulseaudio?

As I said I am very new to linux (just a few days!). To use your patch
after I have downloaded the subversion do I just drop the txt file in
my squeezebox/src folder and run a 'patch -p0 < patch-file-name-here'
in terminal?

Also did you change the third bug documented on the JfwHome website?
the one in /squeezeplay/src/squeezeplay/src/audio/decode ?

I actually did try your r8679 build amongst others and i think i was
getting some graphical errors. The screen was not refreshing so that
each new textline or graphic was just piling up over the old ones.I
think I'm going to struggle to get this going as I don't have the
knowledge to troubleshoot very well!

I'll try a fresh download of squeezeplay and your patch to see if it
works.
