If I load this PDB entry in our "JenaLib Jmol Viewer" using the latest  
version we have available (11.3.33 build from SVN)
http://www.fli-leibniz.de/cgi-bin/3d_mapping.pl?CODE=1xjo&JMOLVERSION=11.3.33svn2

I didn't have any problem to save and restore the state after doing  
different kinds of changes.

Q: Which version did you use?
(You should always provide the version number.)
