Hmm, yeah, that's a bug... The cheese-puff effect is because you have
defined the size of the cartoon in the range after the specified residues,
and Jmol has removed the helix description for those residues. Basically, if
10-20 are helixes
and you display cartoons and then redefine a subset of the structure with
select *;cartoons on
structure helix {12-13}
then 10-11 are one helix, 12-13 are another helix, and 14-20 are no longer
any structure.
What you are saying is that 14-20 should still be helix. I agree.
The reason it works with ribbon is because with ribbon all the structures
are the same size. With cartoons you have smaller non-helix, non-strand
sections.
I'll look into that.
