Well, what do you know? A little item slipped into 11.1.12 (Feb 2007!) but
apparently not ever documented. And it's something I use a lot. Very sorry!
[immediate (!)] *Generally Jmol runs with a script "queue" meaning that as
you enter script commands they are stacked up and run in succession.
However, there are times when it is desirable to temporarily interrupt a
running script. From the applet or application console, or from JavaScript
using Jmol buttons or the jmolScript() function, including an exclamation
point (!) at the VERY beginning of a script serves as a flag to tell Jmol to
temporarily interrupt any running script in order to execute the script that
follows. For example, !spin off will turn spinning off immediately, even if
another script is running. The interruption occurs just prior to the next
command in the running script, never during an actual command execution. In
effect, the interruption script is simply slipped into the running script at
the next available point, and then the running script continues. In
addition, !quit and !exit are slightly different than
quit<file:///C:/jmol-dev/workspace/Jmol-documentation/script_documentation/index.htm?ver=12.0#quit>and
exit<file:///C:/jmol-dev/workspace/Jmol-documentation/script_documentation/index.htm?ver=12.0#exit>in
that they not only stop the currently running script (or all scripts
in
the case of !exit), they also stop spinning as well as any minimization that
might be in process.**

If nature does not answer first what we want,
it is better to take what answer we get.
