Jmol default colors for chains are historical, but -yes- too pastel for my taste. Particularly the bluish and greenish, you don't need to be color-blind. Changing defaults is always a concern, but I agree that there might be a point in this. Or at least not change default but have other choice to apply a different scheme/palette. I would have a use for that.
