Hi,
I am using Jmol 14.0.7 (although I suspect this is some kind of
Windows/Java issue). I have two accounts on my computer, and Jmol behaves
differently on them (even when I change the permissions so that they are
both admin accounts).
On one account, Jmol works fine. On the other account, it seems to mostly
work (I can, e.g., use File -> Get PDB, bring up a molecule, rotate it,
etc.), but the basic "Open" function freezes the program. Once I choose
File -> Open, it locks up and there is nothing I can do but kill the
process.
These are two different accounts on the same computer, running Win7 64 bit,
and the latest version of Java (which I have reinstalled a few times, and I
note that Java does not properly update the path, but I did that manually,
and I would assume this is not the issue anyway since it wouldn't run at
all if it didn't know where Java was). There were old versions of Java that
I cleared out using Sun's tool for that purpose. What I have installed now
is Java 7 Update 51, and Java SE Development Kit 7 Update 51 (the latter
was installed to see if it added anything that might fix the problem, but
it does not).
Any ideas? Any idea what "Open" might do locally that it is not doing with
"Open PDB" so that I could troubleshoot further? Permissions dome to mind,
but again, I never had this issue before, and it was not resolved by
changing the problem account to have admin privs.
