Salam Yazan

Nice to see you here.

I will take a stab at this.

Unfortunately the model Tina Gasperson <http://www.gasperson.com/> is
discussing does not apply to Jordan and other Arab Lugs. Linux has
perpetuated all corners of American and European IT infrastructures that
Linux enthusiasts do not need to make a plan to meet each other anymore.
All IT depts in corporates, governments, and educational institutions
setups have so many Linux users nowadays.

She mentions that Atlanta, GA lug used to have a 100 person a meeting back
in the 95-99 dot bom times. She failed to say that back then that was
probably all linux users in that area. Nowadays, GA Tech (one university
in Atalanta) has so many Linux based labs where so many students are sharing
knowledge about Linux without the need for a LUG.

Our region is totally different story (tragedy.) University graduates in
ITC are still finishing school without hearing about an alternative to
Microsoft based products and Platform. The horror stories I hear are mind
boggling.

Just last week a "Computer Engineer" I know graduated. His graduation
project was a VOIP implementation that he did along with 3 other
students. They rented a Cisco gateway and hooked up to phones to it and
dialed each other in front of an amazed judging panel. No pbx
functionality, no voice mail, no routing ... nothing. Those were Engineers
keep in mind.

All 4 of them did not know (did not want to know) about Linux and VOIP
services that can be ran on it. ALL fore of them did not boot into
anything other than Windows the entire 5 years of their schooling. Whose
fault is that? (Rhetoric question)

I am sure each one of us here know much more stupidly horrifying stories
than this one.

We, in this region, need a LUG because we can not meet people who share our
interest in the wild yet. We have to organize our own safari thus far. We
may wish to tell people about our interest in this platform if we like to
but that is another discussion for another day.

So.. Yes. I do like to meet other people who share my interests. In the
case of Linux a LUG is my only venue for now.

Which makes me think how much I miss see you guys..

How about a social meeting some place nice for good old times sake? :)
Those who would like to come say yay.

Wassalam Alaikum wr wb all

Abdallah
