I can't say I ever encountered such problems, cause I installed
ubuntu-restricted-extras. However my surprise is with PDF? isn't the whole
idea of PDF (and the P in PDF) is to be portable? no matter what system or
fonts are available?

It really surprises me that it's so corrupted!!
