hi randy,
i checked with at least two top financial analysts about your quoting
george harrison as stating that the pontiff owns 51% of General Motors. This
was met with replies as the following:
<<Any person or company that owns more than 5% of a public company must report
this fact to the SEC. Therefore, you can check GMs SEC filings
http://quote.fool.com/sec/sec.asp?currticker=gm&symbols=gm -- but, Ill save
you the trouble, no one person or institution owns half of GM. That is not
to say the Catholic Church is not an investor, Im not sure, however, they are
not listed as a top institutional owner this would indicate that if they are
shareholders, they own less than .61% of outstanding shares thats a long
way from half. However, I would be surprised if they did not invest in
stocks in general. Of course this is just as true for any other large
religious or non-religious not-for-profit organization.
This is not to say Mr. Harrison did not say it, I don't know that either, but
just because your famous doesn't mean you know what you are talking about.>>
apparently, i was told, mr. harrison lost a lawsuit over "my sweet Lord" - it
was not his composition, the judge ruled. mr. harrison also, allegedly
(according to the claptons), broke the heart of the now wife of eric clapton ,
george's ex , when he proposed sharing her in a tryst...a proposal he made
with friends at the dinner table....this is not to suggest that he is some
terrible person not worthy of kindness or consideration...but given that he
likes to witness a certain eastern religiosity, he should be more factual when
he makes statements about those of other religious persuasions...
this is not to deny the heap of corruption in the vatican, especially certain
disreputable leaders of past and present, the curia, and the vatican bank...i
think some day soon they will get a blast from the Lord Himself "in His sore
displeasure" (remember the overthrowing the tables of the money-changers)...
in my opinion, there are cardinals and bishops who are rogues, to say the
kindest that can be said about them,...there are also a few among them who are
very reverential and holy...and there's everything in between...
it is those few worthy ones that i like to think that joni was asked to play
for/with...and for whom dylan accepted the invitation...
cheers,
shane
