I'll try to keep this short, as it's rather off-topic, and I'm a bit tipsy
so probably not making much sense.

I went to see Tori Amos tonight previewing her new album. In the end she
only played three songs from the new album, but of these, she did manage to
pick the albums highlights: Tom Waits' 'Time' and Lloyd Cole's
'Rattlesnakes'.

This was her first public show since the birth of her daughter, so
anticipation was rather high.

It was held in an old church, which really added to the feel of the night -
the Union Chapel, Islington, London. I couldn't bring myself to drink in a
church. I'm not religious, but I have far too much Salvation Army doctrine
inside me to get over that hurdle. I tried to convince myself that it was
OK as it wasn't consecrated ground, but I found out later that it was still
a fully functioning church, so I'm glad I held off. The guilt would be
killing me. I did have the odd sea-breeze backstage afterwards, but that
doesn't count, does it?

Highlights were Cooling, which I haven't heard before live, and the
ever-chilling Me and a Gun. The beauty of the architecture - one of the
finest churches in London - unfortunately did nothing to aid the acousics
as most of the sound disappeared into the roof, and Tori's trademark low
notes were reverberated to the point of distortion.

I had an access all areas pass, and had been promised a meeting with her
later, but two hours and several drinks later nothing happened - though I
did get a CD signed.

Sorry if this has been a bit of a ramble.

Rob
