OK, so here's the 'coward's' way of explaining it. It makes me laugh, but I
manage to say it with a straight face.
"I'm on a music appreciation mailing list. Every year on Labor Day weekend,
we put on a big concert with people from all over the world. And every year
it gets bigger."
I then go on to describe some detail about JoniFest. People go "ooh" and
"aah" and probably have images something like chamber music at Tanglewood, a
lovely setting in the Berkshire Mountains where the Boston Symphony
Orchestra plays in the summer.
I figure it elicits the response we have to JoniFest without having to
really initiate someone, which is impossible unless they're on the list
anyway.
