I am listening to Take 6 (again). For those not familiar with Take 6, they
are a contemporary gospel group with "Manhattan Transfer" like vocals. Very
intricate and well executed. They also sing acapella (without instruments).

On the day of remembrance, I couldn't help but play their cut, "Mary" over
and over again. Each time I played it, the tears flowed. It was what I needed
to hear. "Mary" is an old gospel tune that has been around for many years.
I'm not sure of it's origins. The lyrics go like this:

Oh Mary don't you weep
Tell Martha not to moan
Oh Mary don't you weep
Tell Martha not to moan
Pharaoh's army
Drowned in the Red Sea
Oh Mary don't you weep
Tell Martha not to moan

If I could
I surely would
Stand on the rock
Where Moses stood
Pharaoh's army
Drowned in the Red Sea
Oh Mary don't you weep
Tell Martha not to moan....

The song is a "call and response" type of song where a leader sings the
lyrics, and a group of singers respond with the same lyrics. Though the words
are very simple, they strike at the core of my feelings that this attack was
an affront to both God and man, and that sometimes, it's not by might or by
strength how battles are won, but by the Spirit. This song speaks to me of
comforting those who are sad and reminding them that the battle can still be
won. It is a very simple, but poignant song. Thanks for letting me share.
