Santa Barbara songwriter Kate Bennett has gathered some of her local
musician and songwriting friends to perform songs written by Joni Mitchell,
one of the worlds most revered songwriters. The evening is planned to
coincide with Mitchells birthday (November 7) and is an acknowledgment of
her inclusion as one of 14 artists recently honored at the World Leaders: A
Festival of Creative Genius in Toronto Canada. The proceeds from the Santa
Barbara show will be donated to the Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund.

Over the past few years, Bennett has been in contact with musicians from
around the world who cite Joni Mitchell as a major influence. Bennett and
her husband, Jeff Bisch, recently attended a three-day festival (called
Jonifest) near Boston where they met & played with other Mitchell-influenced
musicians from all over the United States as well as Canada, Europe, New
Zealand, and South America.

It was a weekend full of music for the pure joy of singing and playing,
sharing songs and collaboration, Bennett remarked. I wanted to bring some
of that experience home to Santa Barbara and to get some of my musician
friends together for the same reasons. Everyone I contacted was so excited
at the idea of performing Joni Mitchells songs! Many of us are out there
playing and making some kind of career for ourselves through our music.
This is an opportunity to do it in honor of someone who has had such a major
influence on the art & craft of songwriting. Joni Mitchell is widely
regarded as one of the most significant artists of her generation and there
are many well known songwriters who cite Joni Mitchell as a major influence.

The Santa Barbara Tribute to Joni Mitchell will include performances by
Michael Adcock & some of his band (The Grateful Dads), Kate Bennett, Craig
Stuart & Kasey Lloyd, Jack Lee, John Mooy, Donna OConnor, Tammy Gillispie &
Mark LaCommare, Doug Ingoldsby, Pam Johnson, Delilah Poupore & Antara
Blasius, Heather Stevenson, and Jennifer Terran.

Over the years, Joni Mitchell has been showered with accolades, including
multiple Grammys, a Governor Generals Performing Arts Award, Rolling Stone
s Artist of the Year, Billboard Magazines Century Award, and in 1997 she
was the first Canadian woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame. One critic raved, "When all the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand
as the most important and influential recording artist of the late 20th
century."

The Joni Mitchell Homage took place on October 19 in Toronto. Emphasizing
that the true world leaders of today are creative artists, the 14 honorees
were selected due to their revolutionary life-long work and for pioneering a
new vocabulary in creativity so significant that they have changed the face
of world culture. See http://www.worldleadersfestival.com/ for details).
