After reading about Michael's amazing 'star studded' New Orleans night - so enjoyed reading that - thanks! - I was interested to see a documentary about Dr John on UK TV (The South Bank Show) last week, with Mac driving around New Orleans visiting his childhood haunts, talking about his early influences and guitar teachers before discovering the 'Texas Boogie' on the piano.
The show included some great archive footage at places like the Dew Drop Inn, and of Fats Domino, The Meters, etc and interviews with J & M studio boss Cosimo Matassa and producer Harold Battiste. Is J & M still going, Michael? I found this interview http://www.offbeat.com/text/cosimo.html with 70-year-old Cosimo and a listing of the 'classics' he recorded there - on this Cosimo 101 site - http://www.louisianamusic.org/cosimo_101.htm what an amazing producer/engineer!! best PaulC np Sophisticated Cissy - The Meters
