Hi Jack, Back in 1978-81, the first 3 Joan albums were glued to our turntables. I didn't care too much for the later stuff, except The Shouting Stage. Saw her once back then and she was incredible. Never had another opportunity to see her and thus I WOULD LOVE TO TRADE MUSIC FOR LIVE JOAN SHOWS of the pre-82 era (list upon request).
By the same token, just saw Bonnie Raitt on Jools Holland show. Jools showed some 1973-74 footage in between songs and this just reminded me of how gifted Bonnie was, especially during her long desert cross before she became a hit. I saw her about 4 times in small clubs between 78 and 84 and she was rockin', free of the constraints that come with being popular. Compared with later performances I attended, the ones when she was unknown were definitely outstanding. Cheers for Bonnie who put more heart into pleasing 50 people than 5000. Well it's well known that hardships breed the genius and talent in all people, isn't it? Laurent
