1959 - we got our first stereo hi-fi player. My dad put on Rhapsody In Blue at full volume - it was really grand, but kinda scary... American In Paris... all the songs from the musical Music Man - I hated the song about "Marian, madame librarian", especially when my older sister changed the words to "Marian, madame barbarian". We also got a new couch about the same time - it was a very pretty deep purple color, but I guess the folks didn't like it because they changed it for a taupe-colored one.
