we used it, in elementary school, as a jump rope rhyme. the jump
you "missed" on supposedly indicated the occupation of your
spouse-to-be.>>

We used it too, but I think the jump ropers now days say:

"Prosperous person, destitute one,
Panhandler, purloiner,
Medical specialist, Morally and ethically challenged person,
Native American"

It's a lot harder to jump rope to :~D

Of course, being the 3rd grade jump rope champ, my favorite song was:

"Two little dickie birds sittin' on the wall,
One named Peter, one named Paul
Fly away, Peter, fly away, Paul
Don't you come back 'till your birthday's called
 January, February.......December
Now fly away, fly away, fly away all"

I'm sure this has totally confused you now Nuriel, but I do think Joni was
thinking about her childhood days (jumping rope) when she wrote "Fiction"
