Hello,

I just wanted to chime in on this thread about Joni and her ambivalence
about marriage within her lyrics.

I pretty much agree with Mark E. and his theories and examples. Hell -
I would add that even in "Willy" after the line about "he can not hear
the chapel pealing silver bells" the very next line is "you know it's
hard to tell when your in the spell, if it's wrong or if it's real." I
think this once again states her own mistrust or suspicions about
marriage. Like when she's in love this deeply, - is it wrong to think
that marriage may be an option? She then goes on to say "but you're
bound to lose if you let the blues, get you scared to feel" - so I
think she allows herself to go there sometimes. But I think by the
preponderance of of evidence contrary to that one line, that overall
Joni's philosophy on marriage, is that she is not for it - for herself.
I think some people enjoy the romanticism of the very idea of
marriage, but they're just not well suited for it.

Please note the term "preponderance" - I am out of work and watching a
lot of court tv.

Peace
Susan
