hey jenny, i hope you will check out cassandra. her cover of black crow falls a little short, but lots of her covers are truly inspired, especially U2's 'love is blindness' as warren mentioned, along with many others. on an album that was about miles davis, called 'travelling miles' she covered cindy lauper's 'time after time' as well as 'someday my prince will come' because miles had covered both. spectacular versions.
my favorite cover, actually my favorite cassandra song is her version of 'i can't stand the rain', the old disco song by melvin peebles. she turns it into a delta blues that just kills me. and the joni content is that of the many versions of 'both sides now' that we've heard courtesy bob, the absolute finest, in my opinion, is cassandra wilson's, with guitarist pat martino. brings the song completely back to life. and we heard that originally because of simon, on one of the early tape trees... patrick np - bill evans at montreaux, 6.15.68
