<here's what I would recommend to you:

1. Joni & James Taylor, Live 1970

2. The Hissing Demos (some early recordings of most of the songs Joni recorded
on that project, along with some surprises)

3. The Gene Autry show (an FM broadcast, Joni unplugged in an amazingly good
performance from '94)

4. "A Day In The Garden", Joni's 8/15 performance at Woodstock, from the
soundboard and again Joni's in a wonderful mood and sounds great.

Of course there's a lot more, but these are all collections that every
self-respecting Joni fan should have>

Bob - i couldn't agree more - all of these are great performances

>I can turn these around pretty quickly, and hopefully some people on the list
can vouch for me>
he's EXTREMELY fast - the best at it all.

Erica - i have also been fascinated by this song of late - the chorus has been
getting me - i don't know how to interpret the changes in the chorus as it
relates to the preceding verse - note changes:

"Lady, don't love me now I am dead
I am a saint, turn down your bed
I have no heart," that's what you said
You said, "I can be cruel
But let me be gentle with you"
---
"Lady, please love me now, I am dead
I am a saint, turn down your bed
I have no heart," that's what you said
You said, "I can be cruel
But let me be gentle with you"

---
"Lady, please love me now I was dead
I am no saint, turn down your bed
Lady, have you no heart," that's what you said
Well, I can be cruel
But let me be gentle with you

my latest interpretation is that the conneseuir(sp?) of beauty says anything
he can to get the lady to turn down her bed - i'm dead, i'm not dead, don't
love me, please love me now, etc. etc. - very sophisticated way for joni to
describe a simple pick up situation.
its a haunting, beautiful song with an old english feel to it.
there are live performances on cd and video - just ask bob:)

peace, david
