**It probably is her last recording so maybe all of you should give the complaining a rest and think about the art and beauty she has given the world. Have any of us done what she has? **
I'm on a couple of other discussion lists where any kind of negativity gets hushed by messages like this. Of the many wonderful things I love about this group, one is that we get to go beyond being mere worshipful "fans" to being able to speak openly, honestly & objectively and can do so with respect, expecting to be treated with respect. I've plunked down (a lot of) my semi-hard-earned money for her work, and part of the privilege of that is getting to state my opinion on it. Besides, don't count her out so soon...many of her contemporaries, with considerably less talent, are still in the game. Hell, Solomon Burke has one of the year's best records out and he's been going a lot longer than Joni! (And probably has a bigger bone to pick with being burned by the music business). Besides, if we don't discuss her newer stuff, we're no better than the poor folks who quit on her after the seventies. And all that being said, I AM excited about this new project. And it looks like the pricing will be on par with other collections similar to it. Have I done what she has? No. Has SHE done what I have? No. So what does that prove?
