I was 15 when I bought Court and Spark, listened to it once, and thought I
had wasted what was, for me, a huge chunk of money! But after two more
listens, I loved it and have loved Joni's music ever since. And that was
when I learned that three listens are necessary before I give up on
something that's new to my ears.

On Thursday, we went to Saskatoon for the weekend (I did report that we've
moved home to Saskatchewan, right?). We were driving along and I said to the
boys, "It's Joni Mitchell's birthday today."

Emil said "I wish I could phone her to wish her a happy birthday."

"We don't have her number."

"Why not?"

"Well, we don't know her personally, that's why."

"I do!" Emil said, "I met her at the Mendel Art Gallery, don't you
remember?"
