Somebody opined that not a single song on Travelogue surpasses the original, but YDFT surely does!! The arrangement is fantastic and so is Joni's voice. To my ears it sounds like this is the version Joni must have been thinking of originally, before it got turned into 80s arena-rock on WTRF. I liked the original song, too, but I LOVE this version.
BTW, that Rolling Stone review about Travelogue not "swinging" is just so dumb. Must all music swing? Another review said "it's hard to remember that Joni used to swing." Now I know that Joni could swing on occasion but it's not how she was defined, surely? But a reviewer will define her as a former swinger, as it were, in order to slam her present work. Burns me up.
