I recall this being a topic of mention between the Judd sisters at the TNT
tribute concert. And, Joni uses the word often in her concerts. It is
presented in the Random House unabridged (my favorite dictionary by a lot) as
hi jye' ruh (first pronunciation - note accent on second syllable), or
hej' uhr uh (second pronunciation - note accent on first syllable)
I tried to phoneticize this.
In the first pronunciation, the second styllable is simply a long "i".
In the second pronunciation, the uh sounds are replaced by an upside down
"e".
I have not heard anyone except myself prounounce it in either of these two
ways. Hmm.
